Hello, Altenew friends! Welcome to our first April Guest Designer post.
Today, we have Meghann Andrew and she is sharing two equally stunning handmade projects with us – a card and a layout! Like our previous guest designers, we are such a huge fan of Meghann’s work and we are always thrilled to have her join our release blog hops. If you want to take a quick look at Meghann’s creative work, head over to her Instagram feed and check them out.
Get to know Meghann!
My name is Meghann Andrew, and I am a self-professed lover of paper! I’m also a wife, a mother to a 6-year-old and a big English Golden Retriever, and a lover of coffee, living outside of Houston, Texas. I started my journey into this industry with stamping and card-making as a teenager and then, once I was married, scrapbooking took over! I love documenting our family stories on traditional layouts, in pocket pages, and on traveler’s notebooks. I combined my love of stamping with scrapbooking so that I stamp on almost every project I create. I currently design and coordinate for Elle’s Studio, and create for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine, as well as American Crafts!
Meghann’s “Just Saying Hello” Layout
Hello, Altenew friends! My name is Meghann Andrew and I am so excited to be with you today as the Altenew guest designer! I have been fortunate to be able to work with Altenew’s beautiful scrapbook collections for a couple of years now, but combining their beautiful papers and embellishments with Altenew stamps can create something truly spectacular.
Take a look at the new layout I created that documents a special day for my daughter at our Natural History Museum:
When I saw the Painted Butterflies Stamp Set, I knew that I wanted to record this memory of my daughter, when a butterfly landed on her arm. She was so amazed at this moment and I was lucky to have captured it. Working with the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection, I selected the gorgeous watercolored background paper, which gave me the idea to color my stamped butterflies to match the page background.
Starting from the bottom left corner, I stamped various butterflies from the stamp set, some with just color on white cardstock, others topped with a vellum black outline to soften their color below, all coordinating with the background paper hues. Choosing different butterflies, flying different directions, and allowing my diagonal line of butterflies to take on a more organic curve added movement and an ethereal quality to the page.
The sayings included on the Painted Butterflies Stamp Set gave me the idea for my title, “Just Saying Hello,” and I stamped the first two words, adding the Puffy Alphabet Stickers from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection below after I added my typed journaling directly to the layout background paper.
Other embellishments from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection added more dimension to the page, like the beautiful clear flora stickers. Adding these embellishments to their respective colors on the layout added texture, but allowed my photos to take center stage on the page.
I loved creating this layout, and you can see just how it came together in my process video below. You can also watch it in HD on Altenew’s YouTube channel.
Meghann’s “Thank You” Card
Since I loved working with the Painted Butterflies Stamp Set so much, I decided to use another multi-stepped stamp: the Painted Flowers Stamp Set! When I paired this stamp set with the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection, I created a sweet thank you greeting card to share with a special friend.
I started by creating pretty coral and green flowers using the Painted Flowers Stamp and Die Bundle. I loved the green in the leaves and wanted to use more of it, so I grabbed the small green polka dot paper from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection to become the background of my card, tying baker’s twine where the paper ended against smooth, white cardstock.
These flowers needed other elements to offset them, so I grabbed the lovely green heart and banner die-cuts from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection. The flowers surrounded the heart to create a beautiful contrast of colors and the banner gave me a place to add my sentiment, which came from the Painted Butterflies Stamp Set.
You can see how easy it was to create these beautifully painted flowers in my video below (or watch it in HD on Altenew’s YouTube channel). Thanks so much for watching!
You can find more of my work on my YouTube channel, Instagram feed, and blog! Thanks to Altenew for making gorgeous stamps and scrapbook collections that make creating so easy and fun, and for having me guest design!
You have wowed us again, Meghann! Thank you so much for sharing these gorgeous projects with us! We were absolutely thrilled and truly honored to have you as our April Guest Designer.
