Sketch Challenge #15: Dripping Colors Layout

by Zinia

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’d like to share with you a layout I created based on a design I did a while ago.

The idea is to create a large cluster of rainbow stamped images and then create a dripping color effect behind them. There are many different ways to create this look. You can use linear stamp images as I did in my initial layout, use mini ink cubes straight on the page as I did in this post, or go a bit messy and use mixed media products like watercolors or ink sprays.

I used one of my absolute favorite stamp sets, A Study in Watercolor and I stamped images in various shades of green, orange, red and pink.

I used the stamped images to plan the exact placement of the cluster and the order of the colors, then I used mini ink cubes and rubbed them straight on my page. To create this brushstroke effect, you need to apply more pressure at the top and gradually reduce it as you go towards the bottom of the page.

To balance the top area of the layout I added a few black ink splatters. Hope you were inspired to create! I can’t wait to see your take on this challenge!
