Get to know Kelly!
Hi everyone! My name is Kelly Janes and I live in a small town in northeastern Indiana with my husband, Andy, and our son, Aidan. I’m also the mom of 3 fur babes (2 dogs and a cat). I started collecting scrapbooking supplies around the time I got married but didn’t really fall in love with the hobby until my kiddo was born. My true passion is 12×12 scrapbook pages. I like to dabble with mixed media and I love to use cut files on my projects. It’s such an honor and pleasure to be guest designing for Altenew, and I’m excited to share my projects with you!
Let’s check out Kelly’s projects!
For my first project, I started with the Reflection Scrapbook Collection. (This collection was the first time I was introduced to Altenew’s products and I immediately fell in love!) First, I took a couple of the patterned papers from the collection and fussy cut the florals and butterflies.
I decided on a woodgrain patterned paper, from the Reflection Collection 6×6 Paper Pack, to use as my background. I positioned the fussy cut long-stem florals in the center of the page while leaving an opening for my photos.
Then I added a few of the fussy cut butterflies around the layout along with white floral die-cuts. Next, I created a cluster in the upper right-hand corner of the layout using a fussy cut butterfly and another one of the white floral Reflection Collection Die-Cuts.
Here I used the Black Alphas from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection for my title and I added a few black Enamel Dots to add a little bit more black to the layout. I love the monochromatic look of this layout!
For my second project, I started with the Our Family Scrapbook Collection. First, I fussy cut one of the beautiful floral wreaths from the Patterned Papers and positioned it on a white cardstock piece of paper.
I used the A Study in Watercolor Stamp Set with a light pink & purple ink to add a little more detail under the wreath. Also, I added machine stitching when the stamping was complete for a little more texture.
The floral wreath is so gorgeous I didn’t need a lot of embellishing so I tucked a few tags from the Our Family Cardstock Die-Cuts, a sprinkling of Enamel Dots and my title using the Black Alphas from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection. I also created a visual triangle using a few of the Watercolor Butterfly Cardstock Stickers. I don’t always add journaling to my layouts, but I do always try to add the date with a Date Stamp.
I had so much fun creating all 3 of the projects, but this one is probably my favorite. I started with a scrap piece of white cardstock and created a background using the Watercolor Doodles Stamp Set. Then, I cut the scrap paper into triangles. Before adhering the triangles to the background, I added a splash of pink using mists from my stash. After that, I added machine stitching to the triangles and then moved onto embellishing.
Here, I created a couple of clusters of photos and embellishments to the upper left and lower right corners of the layout. I tried to have the clusters mirror each other so the design would stay balanced.
I used colorful leaves from the Our Family Cardstock Stickers and another leaf from the Live Your Dream Chipboard Stickers. Next, I added a few Live Your Dream chipboard banners and Enamel Dots in both of the clusters. Then, I added a couple of the Watercolor Butterfly Cardstock Stickers, and I placed my title, using the Chipboard Word Stickers from the Our Family Collection above the photos on the bottom right. I love when there are phrases that can be used as titles! It takes all the guesswork out!
