Hello, Altenew friends! Welcome to our January 2020 Guest Designer post.
We are kicking off 2020 with an amazingly talented and lovely lady as our first guest designer of the year! Kathleen is once again bringing us beautiful inspiration through her gorgeous layout! In case you want to see more of her lovely work, feel free to check out her blog and head over to her Instagram feed.
Get to know Kathleen!
Hi there! My name is Kathleen (aka ScatteredConfetti) and I am a coffee addict, plant lover, and dog mom from Germany with great affection for all things paper and scrapbook-related. I love documenting everyday moments because I believe that in the end, these are what make life wonderful! Although I mostly create layouts and mini albums, I have really gotten into card-making over the last few months.
I love sharing my projects on my blog, Instagram and Youtube channel and connecting with other creatives from all around the world! And I am also passionate about teaching scrapbooking workshops, both online and “offline“ (in person).
Let’s check out Kathleen’s layout!
Hey everyone, I’m excited to be back on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog as a guest designer! When Altenew asked me to choose one of their Creativity Kits to work with, I must admit, it took me a while to decide on one! There are so many great kits with lots of different styles and combinations.
Ultimately I decided on the Hope Flows Through You Creativity Kit because (as you might know) I LOVE Altenew’s floral stamps, especially the layering ones. Plus, I’ve had my eye on the Dotted Scales Debossing Cover Die for so long now and it is part of that kit as well!
Unfortunately, the Hope Flows Through You Creativity Kit is currently out of stock, but keep your fingers crossed and make sure you subscribe to Altenew’s “back in stock” email notification so you’ll be the first to know once it’s available again. 🙂
Obviously the kit would work perfectly for making cards, with the Dotted Scales die or the Flowing Hearts Stencil for the background and the florals as die-cut embellishments on top. You could then use the Flat & Fold Alpha Die for your sentiment and that’s it – perfectly beautiful cards without having to search for the right combination!
However, I wanted to show you that you could also use this kit to create a scrapbooking layout. I started by stamping lots of flowers from the Hope Stamp Set in different shades of red. I mostly used the inks from the Red Sunset Mini Cube Set for the flowers. The Mini Cube Sets are perfect for layered stamps as the different shades coordinate perfectly with each other.
I also stamped a bunch of leaves and small flower buds and then die cut all of my stamped images so I could scatter them around my page.
Since I wanted the flowers to be the star of this layout, I didn’t add too many more elements and only a few small pops of color. I used the Dotted Scales die on two pieces of white cardstock that I layered behind my photos. I like the subtle texture that it gives without adding more color. Next, I layered some paper scraps in matching colors behind both photo clusters for that pop of color and even more texture and dimension.
When I was happy with the placement of the photos on my layout, I started arranging the flowers around them, making sure to overlap some of them and have some peek out from behind and in between the paper layers.
This helps to add even more dimension to the page and also visually separates the different layers.
For my title, I used the word happy from the Sweet Hearts Adhesive Wood Veneers, and I also scattered some of the smaller hearts around the page to repeat that wood color and texture. I love those wood veneer pieces because the just add the perfect little something to any project and you can easily modify them, for example by heat embossing the pieces.
I hope that you enjoyed this project and feel inspired to create a very flower-y layout (or card) yourself! 🙂 Make sure to check out all the Creativity Kits in the Altenew store, I’m sure there’s something for everyone!
Thanks for stopping by and a big thank you to Altenew for having me again!
