Nesting Oval Dies: 3 Mixed Media Ways

by Tania

Hey Friends!

For my blog post today, I am highlighting the Nesting Ovals Die Set and showing you 3 mixed media ways to use it. There are so many different ways to use Nesting Dies: as frames, for dry embossing, and as card panels. You can even using them as a main design element like I have for my mixed media art journal page below!

Create the background using Watercolor Brush Refills: Ultramarine and Ultraviolet by dripping the ink on to a damp 6×8 piece of heavyweight cardstock. Add splatters with water and Iridescent Shimmer Spray to the background using a brush or your hands. The inks are dye based so they react to any wet medium applies over the top!

Let the ink dry completely, add some scribbly journaling with a permanent marker and add Embossing Paste with the Bubble Wrap Stencil. Dry completely.

Dampen another piece of thick cardstock, and drip Rubellite, Ultramarine and Ultraviolet Watercolor Brush Refills on. Let the colors blend and lift some of the ink with a kitchen towel if needed. Die cut black , inked and metallic gold cardstock with the three smallest dies from the Nesting Ovals Set. Assemble flower petal shapes as shown in photo and add to art journal page with foam adhesive.

To finish off add die cut sentiment from Script Words Die.

Mixed Media Cards

For the cards, I first cut two panels slightly smaller than an A” size card using thick cardstock. Blend ink refill colors as with the art journal page. Let dry completely as this will stop your ink from smudging. For the “Hugs” card, die cut a new piece of cardstock with one of the dies from the Nesting Oval Die set. Stamp image from Wild Floral set with a stamp positioning tool on to inked panel first and then add oval image to center of panel with temporary adhesive. Stamp again on oval diecut with same stamp to create your eclipse card.

Add some coloring using Ultramarine and Ultraviolet Brush markers from the Autumn Festival Brush Marker Set. Leave some white spaces for effect, as you don’t have to color the entire image! Add Embossing Paste through the Bubble Wrap Stencil and feather the edges for a grungy effect on both card panels. While the paste is still wet, sprinkle Antique Gold Embossing Powder and heat set until it is shiny. You will see the paste bubbling a little underneath the embossing powder, this is quite normal and adds more texture.

To finish, cut a panel using the oval die and attach to an A2 card blank. Assemble cards and finish by adding sentiments from Script Words Die. Heat emboss if desired!
