Hello, everyone! We are so excited to introduce you to our November Guest Designer.
Today, we have the incredibly talented Kylie Kingham with us! You are in for a treat, friends. She is uber talented and excels in both scrapbooking and cardmaking! If you want to have a quick look at what she is all about, hop on to her Instagram feed.
Get to know Kylie!
Hello everyone! My name is Kylie and I live in a very pretty, country town in Australia with my husband Paul, two children – Eliza & Jy as well as our little puppy named Maximus! I have always loved creating with paper ever since I was a little girl. This has continued and, nowadays, I love creating across all platforms whether it be scrapbooking, pocket page memory keeping, or card making. I also enjoy decorating in my Planner and Traveler’s Notebook. You will also usually find me somewhere taking photos – lots of photos! Photography is another hobby I enjoy and I love being able to combine the two! It is a great honor for me to have been asked to be a guest designer for this month and I am really excited to share my projects with you all.
Kylie’s ‘Thank You’ Tag
I have created a little ‘Thank You’ tag. Creating gift tags is one of my favorite things. I love that you can still include lots of detail, yet they are super fast to make.
First of all, I added some Dotted Washi Tape to a white cardstock. (By the way, I am totally addicted to this tape – so many uses! I then cut it down to be 12cm x 8cm (4.7”x 3.1”) and cut the top two corners on a diagonal to form the top of my tag. Then I punched a hole in the center.
Let’s get started!
The lovely flowers on my tag are again the Flower Arrangement Stamp Set and the Ditsy Print Stamp Set. I really loved the large cluster of flowers in the Ditsy Print Stamp Set and used Pink Pearl, Coral Bliss, Heart Beat, and Vineyard Berry Crisp Dye Inks to add color. Next, I chose Jet Black ink for the outline stamp so they really stood out, and Frayed Leaf for the leaves. I chose the same color combinations for the large flower as well.
For the smaller singular flowers, I colored them with Mango Smoothie, Peach Perfect, Pink Pearl, and Coral Bliss. Once they were all stamped I fussy cut them out.
I lined the top of my tag with white cardstock using foam tape so it didn’t sit flat and also made sure to leave a small border of the washi tape showing. To the top, I stamped the ‘Thank You’ phrase stamp from the Flower Arrangement Stamp Set with Jet Black Crisp Dye Ink.
Next, I added my blooms and foliage to my tag using foam tape for the top placed flowers to, again, add dimension. To finish, I added a free hand-drawn I with a fine tipped black pen and some string.
Kylie’s “Hello” Card
The second project that I am sharing today is a card. Again, I’m following in the theme of my layout and tag by creating with more beautiful flower stamps using the Dotted Washi Tape as a background. I added some of the washi to white cardstock before trimming it down to be slightly smaller than my card base, ensuring I left a small white edge border.
The beautiful flower stamp I have used for my card is the Ditsy Daisy Stamp Set. I used Cotton Candy, Coral Berry, and Ruby Red Crisp Dye Inks, layered over each other. In the center of each bloom, I used Jet Black for contrast, and for the sweet little leaves, I used Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades. I made sure I stamped each flower fairly close together so I achieved a really nice cluster before fussy cutting them all out.
To finish my card, I again used the ‘Hello’ phrase stamp from the Flower Arrangement Stamp Set with Jet Black Crisp Dye Ink. I think these Ditsy Daisies are going to be a new favorite of mine!
Kylie’s ‘Hello’ Floral Layout
The final project I would like to share with you all is my ‘Hello’ floral layout. It is currently spring in Australia and I wanted to create something that reflected the season. I wanted to incorporate lots of color and flowers and yet keep an overall simplicity.
To create my layout, I began by covering some white 12×12” cardstock with the Dotted Washi Tape. Being 4.5” wide, I loved the coverage this could give me and decided to use it as a complete background. Whilst it has a subtle design to it, it really helped make my flowers ‘pop’ and stand out.
To create my beautiful flowers, I used the Flower Arrangement Stamp Set on white cardstock. It features 3 different sized flowers and I enjoyed layering different colored Crisp Dye Inks to create a lot of variety in tone. The largest flowers are some of my favorites and to create these, I layered Cotton Candy, Coral Berry, Ruby Red, and Mango Smoothie to form my blooms. Once stamped, I set about fussy cutting them all out.
To create contrast and to break the color up, I also created the same flowers, only this time layering Mango Smoothie, Peach Perfect, Coral Bliss, and Vineyard Berry.
I really loved how the colors coordinated so beautifully once my layout was together.
To give my layout extra dimension, I added foam tape to some of the blooms and foliage to raise it up off the page a little when I adhered them. This enabled me to have a good even coverage of blooms since I could tuck leaves or the smaller blooms in any open spaces underneath. It’s a really effective technique to use and lets you see all the varying layers.
I also used this technique to add leaves to surround my photo. That way it made my image look like it was sitting amongst the foliage and flowers. I used the larger leaf stamp from the set and stamped it with Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, and Evergreen Crisp Dye Inks.
To complete my layout, I took the ‘Hello’ stamp from the set and used the Jet Black Crisp Dye Ink on white cardstock. I carefully fussy cut it out and adhered it to my layout with more foam tape. The depth of the black against the bursts of color from my blooms really helped the title stand out.
I have also created a step by step video for you to watch which showcases closely how I have created my layout. You can watch it below or in HD on Altenew’s YouTube channel.
